The Frost Wind Ensemble (FWE), conducted by Robert Carnochan, is an acclaimed ensemble that actively commissions new music, performs for numerous concerts, conferences and festivals throughout the season and has released numerous compact discs on major labels.

The Frost Wind Ensemble at the University of Miami is comprised of  the finest wind and percussion student artists at the university.  FWE performs six on-campus concerts per academic year, as well as at national conferences and festivals throughout the season.

Actively commissioning new music for the repertoire, FWE has offered world premieres from such composers as Andy Akiho, Clarke McCallister, Joel Puckett, Michael Colgrass, James Syler, David Maslanka, and Christopher Rouse. One of the guiding principles of the FWE is to provide its members with the opportunity to connect with leading musical minds of our time, resulting in recent residencies by such notable musicians as Johnathan Leshnoff, Mellissa Hughes, Carter Pann, Donald Grantham, Joe Alessi, Ricardo Morales, Craig Morris, Gabriel Beavers, Svet Stoyanov, Dale Underwood, Trudy Kane, Hila Pittman, Eric Whitacre, Michael Daugherty, and John Corigliano.

As well as programming new and exciting repertoire, FWE also dedicates ample time to performing the standard and time-tested wind band classics, outstanding transcriptions, as well as the “best of the best” from leading contemporary composers such as Steven Bryant John Mackey, Veit Coung, David Biedenbender, Aaron Perrine, Paul Dooley and the like.

FWE is proud to boast that its former members now hold positions in symphony orchestras, military bands and as collegiate faculty throughout the United States and the world.
